UNM well represented at the 2024 Southwest Local Algebra Meeting (SLAM)

UNM was well represented in the 2024 Southwest Local Algebra Meeting (SLAM). Five of our graduate (or former graduate) students drove together to Oklahoma City over the weekend and participated in the meeting that was held at the  University of Oklahoma, 24–25 February 2024.

The participating students where: first year students Alexander Fritschi and Gari Lincoln Chua, second year student Daniel Havens, and fifth year student Sarah Poiani. Former graduate student Austin Bell, who received his MS in Spring 2023, also joined the UNM gang!

Sarah, who will graduate this year,  presented a poster on "Constructing pair operations", part of her PhD Thesis under the direction of Associate Professor Janet Vassilev.

The Southwest Local Algebra Meeting (SLAM) is an annual event bringing together algebraists around the Southwest since 2010. UNM hosted the 2017 SLAM, Janet Vassilev was the meeting's local organizer, and it was supported by NSF and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
