Math & Stats graduate students help organize Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary's Math Night

Graduate students Sarah Poiani, Daniel Havens,  Alexander Fritschi, and Umair Wani, and former graduate student Austin Bell brought their boundless enthusiasm for mathematics, tilings and puzzles  to Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School on Tuesday March 19, 2024.

Sarah collaborated with her mom, Michelle Poiani the school librarian, to arrange, organize and host the school's Math Night. This is part of their Title 1 Family Engagement Nights. The objectives were to use math games and activities to   increase number sense, fluency, and problem solving. About 300 people, including students, family, and friends, came!

Alex and Austin brought lots of cool things from ¡Explora! where they work for MathHappens. Sarah was in charge of the dice table and had the students doing addition and multiplication. Daniel helped out with card games and Umair did a great job hosting the fake money table!

Word is that everyone really enjoyed it!!!

Kudos to our graduate students delivering the gospel of Mathematics to  New Mexico children!
