Event Description:

COMPACTIFICATION AND APPLICATIONS

Prof. Harry Gingold, West Virginia University

The “Parabolic Compactification” that maps the n dimensional Euclidean space onto a "Parabolic Bowl" is compared to other compactifications. I will discuss applications of this compactification to the following fields: Approximation Theory, Fixed Point Theory, Continuous and Discrete Dynamical Systems and Celestial
Mechanics. Rates of blow up in Rational Dynamical Systems, A new Attractor for the Lorenz System and a larger set of Global solutions for the Lorenz System on (-\infty,\infty) are examples of the extent of the method.
